A donation to Heifer International provides farm animals, training and more to impoverished families around the world. They are given a hand-up, not just a handout. The goal of Heifer at Christmas is to help children appreciate the importance of charity and how their charitable contributions help repair the world and lift families from poverty to self-reliance. Children learn that Heifer families feed themselves with the milk from cows and goats, and the eggs from chicks and ducks.

Heifer International now offers beautifully beaded and fair trade bracelets that were handmade by female artisans in India!

This holiday season, Heifer gives you the opportunity to send an animal in the name of a loved one that will help a family survive. You can send a goat, a pig, a water buffalo and even a flock of chicks – something unique and tangible.  Who would’ve thought a goat could do so much – nourishment (milk, cheese, butter), financial support (the sale of milk products and wool), better crop yields through fertilizer and assistance clearing land and the opportunity for families to pass on the gift. Heifer gift recipients are required to pass on the first female offspring of their animal to another community member, continuing the gift of giving.  There is a share of an animal for every price range and also perfect for a stocking stuffer! Most animals like pigs and goats are $120, but there are also cheap, yet effective gifts like honeybees at $30. If you are looking for a more expensive gift, perhaps for a whole family, the water buffalo for $250 is perfect. View the whole catalog here.

Mark Feuerstein, one of the stars of USA Network’s Royal Pains, says the idea of “giving people something that can help repair their economic well-being and the future generations of their family with livestock is so beautiful. Heifer International is working to repair the world—one family at a time and one animal at a time.”

This year, as your family celebrates the Festival of Lights, help bring light to a family in need.

Heifer International’s mission is to end hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth. For 70 years, Heifer International has provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. Heifer is currently working in more than 30 countries, including the United States, to help families and communities become more self-reliant.
